Fats, or lipids, refer to types of compounds known as triglycerides, phospholipids, cholesterol and sterols. Fats have many important roles in the body including providing energy, insulation, protection, help in absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and are used by the body to make hormones. Fat is an important nutrient but needs to be eaten in moderation.
Triglycerides refers to both fats and oils and are the main storage form of fat and glucose in the body. They are made up of fatty acids which are also referred to as saturated or unsaturated fats. They are derived from fat and carbohydrates that have been eaten.
